I had come back in town after a business trip and been home for a few days when my kids casually mentioned to me that a female friend of their dad’s had been over at the house while I was away. This was a woman who had made evident overtures towards my husband in the past (remember the hot tub?), and we had agreed that she wouldn’t come over to the house.
Apparently my kids had come home from a friend’s house, and their dad and his friend were coming upstairs together from the basement.
The basement was basically the recreation room in the house - TV, sound system, games, etc. It was also home to the guest room.
His explanation was that he had wanted to show her his new sound system.
Hmmm….
Is that something people do? Bring friends inside for no other reason but to show them a new sound system?
When I first heard this from my kids, I was pretty upset. I asked my husband about it later, and I asked why he hadn’t told me himself. To hear it from my kids rather than from him did seem like he was hiding something.
He repeated the explanation he’d given before - that he was showing her the sound system. Then he told me that I was making something out of nothing.
My gut told me something was wrong, but I wanted so badly to believe it…and so I did.
What would you have done?
