My husband and I had been married about two years when I noticed the attention he was getting from a woman he worked with. As it happens, she was single - not that this has to be relevant. At barbecues, she managed to spend most of the night talking with him. She'd create more social opportunities for us all to be together., and the list goes on.
She was extremely flirty with him, to say the least, and he returned the flirts. I blamed the extra attention on her and told myself she was just seeking male attention and validation.
I justified his flirting, telling myself that women were drawn to him because he was such a good friend and good listener.
Then his birthday came around. The card she gave him...well...it just gave me the icks. You know what I mean? Here's what it said:
"To the best husband ever"
That's weird, right? I mean what woman gives another woman's husband a birthday card that says "to the best husband ever"? Who does that?
I asked him about it, and he shrugged it off and just said he did't know why she would have given him a card like that - that it wasn't a big deal. My spidey senses were tingling. As per the usual, I just tucked it away as "being weird" and left it at that. Well, not entirely. It stayed with me for years. And he kept the card.
Weird? Not weird? What do you think?
